The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
